Similar to the way Google can be used, Seriously Fish's search engine has some advanced features.

To search part of a word, use an asterix (*) as a wild card.

tetr*would return fishes such as "Neon Tetra" or "Tetraodon baileyi".

To search for one word, whilst excluding another, use + and - symbols.

+piranha -stingraywould return a list of Piranha profiles but not the Stingray profiles which would otherwise be returned because they mention Piranhas.

To search for an exact sentence, use quotation marks.

"satanoperca daemon"would return the "Satanoperca daemon" profile and any others which mention specifically that fish.

If you're unsure of the spelling of a word, try to spell it phonetically - hopefully our search engine will be able to recommend the word you're looking for.

agasiziwould return "Did you mean: agassizii?".

When searching for information on a species of fish, please bear in mind that only certain profile fields are searched. The genus, species, common name, family and origin of each species is checked when each searched is performed. Searching for a specific temperature or type of habitat (i.e. sand) will likely not yield any results. If you believe that further flexibility in profile searches could improve our search engine, please contact us here.
