SirkusMemberI had mine in a community tank for the first week or so but that was because i was sure that he wasn’t guna spit em out for another week, he doesnt eat though so if you have a tank spare, might be worth putting him into his own little tank without food for length of ‘gestation’. i started feeding them on algae i cultured on the windowsill as soon as i noticed the fry in the breeder (used the algae and copepods in it as they were less likely to foul the tank if the fry weren’t interested in food). I also noticed that they were very slow growing fish but it may be different with B. channoides? hope that helps?
o and also, he typically held about 15 eggs and he was about an inch long. I’m guessing that you didn’t see the mating ritual?

MattKeymasterCheers boys. Kris I watched them spawning for about an hour and a half. Must’ve disturbed them when I came in as when I went back to check on them they were going at it again. The colours on the male during the ritual were equal to any reef fish I’ve seen. Amazing. Will try and get pics tonight.

SirkusMemberWow! that is impressive, the B. simplex male had lots of irridescent flecks on his face and especially around his pharynx area. sounds like your B. channoides are far nicer. can’t wait for the pics.
