hachgeParticipantHi friends
After more than 2.5 years in trying to breed that fish I found today when changing the water many fry of different size.I have 5 fish in a 100 liters tank and can’t say how many males and howmany females I have.Torben and Colin I hope I will save enough to thank you when you help me with fish.December 4, 2010 at 6:49 pm #319676
StefanMemberCongratulations on your many Betta renata fry; excellent work Herve! Your 5 adults, would they be F1? And, any photos to share of the adults and fry?
I remember well the trouble I had breeding this species, and Torben excelling in it.

hachgeParticipantYes Stefan they are F1 from the fish Torben passed me years ago. This is the 2nd time I manage to breed them.I lost the first one by accident.I leave all the fish together this time and will see how it goes on.I will let you know.Big fish with very long fins.I like them,,but I can’t see them only when I feed them

StefanMemberAh yes; I used to keep their parents until I sent them up north and Torben was (is!) magic with them. And they indeed have long fins; ‘majestic’ was the word that came to mind. I’m surprised you don’t get to see them. Are they in a well decorated tank? That’s at least how I kept mine and I could always see them.
Leaving the fry (or are they bigger already, as in juveniles or even subadults?) in, might result in the other adults eating them?
Are yours aggressive to each other?
I’d like to have another go at them myself again some day; one of the most enjoyable species I’ve kept.

MattKeymasterA pic of your set-up would be interesting if possible Herve.

ColinParticipantI recently got one of my F1s back, a male from a spawning in december 2006! They are still a favourite of mine and its funny because Stefan and I were just discussing renata last week and that we needed to find more again!
Well done Herve and I definitely look forward to getting some

hachgeParticipantIf I still get them I will bring some to the convention in April and hope to see you there with Stefan.

hachgeParticipantI have a problem feeding my fry, when using powder and granulates they just dye the next day I can only use BBs.

StefanMemberI wouldn’t raise fry on dry foods, certainly not in the beginning. Maybe they die of pollution due to the un-eaten dry foods? BBS and microworms etc. are much more suitable for raising them until they are larger and can accept dry foods. Good luck!

hachgeParticipantI still have plenty of fry that I can see only when feeding them with BBs ,I stopped dry food.
I like watching the adults catching the blood worms and the fry swimming between.Or from time to time I can see 3or 4 of the adults piling up in front of the tank and staying like this for minutes. They are the only fish doing that from all the species I had since I started with fish.AuthorPostsViewing 11 posts - 1 through 11 (of 11 total)You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
