    Hi Guys,

I’ve been slightly over run by Ramshorn snails after buying some plants on eBay, so I’ve counter acted by buying an Assassin snail, who by the way is doing a great job!

My question or maybe problem is that I’m planning on buying a Betta Splendens and read that they eat some snails. Does this include Assassins?

    Thanks in advance!

Haven’t heard of any problems, so should be a safe combination.

I should say no. I keep Ramshorn in all my tanks as a clean up crew and I have kept these with Betta smaragdina, brownorum, uberis and channoides and they haven´t touched the snails.

Another issue is, if you´re over run by Ramshorn you are probably overfeeding a bit. One of the reasons I´m keeping Ramshorns is that they are not as prolific as many other snail species.

Do you have a lot of light brown or red algae growth, these diatoms are prolific in new setups and rams horns love the stuuf which could explain why you have so many.

I once had a Betta splendens that ate Ramshorn snails, and small Physa snails. I don’t imagine it would have had much luck with an Assassin snail though, their shells are much harder than both Ramshorn and Physa, and like everybody else, I’ve not heard of Betta splendens eating Assassin snails.
