    Hey

A North Yorkshire retail outlet has in stock a cyprinid they are calling the Burmese eye spot silver shark.

These fish are labiobarbus-like but lack a large dorsal. The silver scales are not as pronounced as in Labiobarbus. There appears to be a green lateral line and green colour around the head.

Can anyone give a scientific name for this specie?

    Regards David

    Hey

Andy Rushworth has been in touch and believes that these fish are a regional form of Labiobarbus ocellatus (Dangelia microlepis).

    Hey Dunc and Andy

Dunc – Brilliant exact match. Is this fish in your care?

Andy – Dunc’s photo. shows the green lateral line we were talking about , the shorter dorsal-base I mentioned plus the green patch to left of eye.

    Lovely, but nervy, fish.

    Thank you

    Regards David

Nah that’s not mine, found it on another website.

    How big do they get?

David if the fish posted by Dunc is your fish then it isn’t a L.ocellatus , in my opinion the fish in Dunc’s pic is an Osteochilus ?

Ocellatus has a spot behind the gil plate [chest area] and another on the caudal penduncle !

We could do with a pic of L.ocellatus !

    Hey

THANKS everyone for your help. I have asked Matt if he would, please, add to this thread some poor quality photographs (MD and Mick live to far away for a “grab your camera” phone call) of the 3 fish which came home with me. They look more like the fish in Dunc’s photo. than the one above?

    Regards David

Hi David , I’d say your fish is the same as the one in Matts pic i.e.L.ocellatus , just a little stressed due to being bagged up !
