    It is funny, I had the opposite experience. I got my Everglades pygmy sunfish from Germany in the hottest month of 2016: August. They had traveled a whole week to come to Italy.

    That, I think, may be the reason why they started spawning in October 2016 instead of March 2017.

    During the day the fry would hide from their parents and at night, I discovered, they would leave their hiding places while their parents slept. There was one survivor of the first spawning. He was considerably larger than his siblings. He did not attack his little brothers and sisters. On the contrary, I still think that he taught them how to be a small Everglades pygmy sunfish.
