EyrieParticipantI wondered where my wigs had gone ….
How big’s the “tank”, and how many Aphanius do you have?

MattKeymasterHa cheers guys. Mark the tub is about 30″L x 15″W and there are 8 juvie Aphanius mento in there. They’re getting twice daily feeds at the minute (one dry, one frozen) and are doing very well. The “wigs” are wool spawning mops although I may remove these to be honest.

ulster exileMemberI’ve heard of these wool mops being used before (not bred anything so excuse my ignorance!). Is there any particular type of wool to use out of interest? wondering if there are any dies etc added to the wool to get it a particular colour…? Why don’t you like the wool mops?
As for filamentous algae – you can have some of my cladophora if you want – I seem to grow it for a pasttime in my wee tank, although I culled as much of it as possible last night.

a friend of mine who’s in killis uses the fabric from mops (new ones of course) much better than wool as it tends to fray

It’s acrylic yarn Chrissy, natural wool is no good as it rots. No dyes added after purchase although I presume it is dyed in some way. You can use any colour you fancy.
It’s not that I don’t like mops in general, just that these Aphanius will eat their spawn and I have a hunch it’ll be more difficult for them to find eggs in the algae as it’s much finer and more complex in structure.

deskioParticipantBen many thanks for this four parter. Out of interest the background- is that a chalkboard which you’ve installed or a wall painted with chalkboard paint? Love to see a review of that when you have the time
