    Hey just a quick one.

Been looking at the cost of converting my Tropical tank to a marine one. If it helps the tank is a 60 gallon tank. and ive seen a new external filter built specifically for Marine tanks that is jst a pretty huge all in one filter with protein skimmer sump included.

Now the idea of the tank i want is to inhabit a Lionfish, a few soft corals. Ive been looking around an i like Colt Corals and Finger Leather Corals. And also Live rock that i can build up for caves etc.. for the Lionfish to rest on and hide in. Then possibly other fish that can can go with the lionfish (long horned cowfish is another that is catching my eye but i know options are sightly limited with the lionfish being a slow feeder)

Now while im saving up for buy enough live rock and a new filter. It will take (with christmas money from family 2 months for me to save enough to get everything at once.)

Anyway thats the background story out of the way hope i didnt bore you too much but back to the question while ive been reading ive found sites that say that Live rock can start as a filter but i may be misunderstanding the text.. there be any benefit in clearing my tropical tank putting in the new sediment, water and some live rock while i save for the filter then adding the filter.

Or would this not work and would i just kill the live rock??

Also if im making any glaring errors in the basic set up idea so far any help on this would also be welcome.

    Thanks guys
