    The basic question is if anyone here understands how it really works and where it comes from. Long-finned strains exist in different species and seems to be for the most part controlled by a single dominant gene.

    There seems to be an abnormality with cories. Long-finned strains exist in at least c.panda, c.paleatus and c.aeneus (three most common cories?), but they seem to express differently: c.panda is long-tail, c.paleatus are high-fin (enlarged dorsal but not caudal), and c.aeneus is both. (I hope I’m not mistaken with this: I have only the latter two species, and my fish is not fully grown, so this may change yet. long-finned C.panda I’ve only seen photos of.) What is going on here? Two genes, one controlling the dorsal and one controlling the tail?

    Does anyone know where these strains come from? Do long-finned specimens exist in the wild and were brought in? Or mutations in the long-fin gene are common enough that they eventually happen in captive populations and someone propagates them?

    PS. Long-finned aeneus btw are very attractive.
