SecundinoParticipantHi,
I’m new to this forum. I live in Spain and own two aquariums, one scaped, the other not. Freshwater, with N. breviata, H. amandae and Boraras merah.
For long time I’ve been feeding with Microworms and Grindal. Now I’ve lost the Microworms and would like to begin a new culture. As I know, they should be widespread in soil. I’ve tried a few extractions from soil/compost/sand/leaf litter but till now without success.
Has anyone an idea how to make it work? And no, I’ve no possibility to get some over local forums.
Thank you in advance.
(As this is my first ever post in this forum, please move this topic as you might consider if I didn’t place it right. And apologies for my bad school english, just trying to improve it … since years now!)
Regards
Secun

Barb ManParticipantWhat else are you feeding it sounds like there should be more fish. I know daphnia is really easy to care for and maybe you could try some of that. If you get any good advice concerning the worms I would love to hear about it

F. Lange SantosParticipantRegarding microworm, you refer to Anguilula silusiae? Because for all I know, the creation of them is in a pope with oats.
First time I read that these animals are found in the soil.
Regarding Grindal worms, I’m trying to cultivation in a sponge, because I had problems with mites. Even my brine shrimp were more successful …
You can see good tutorials on YouTube if you want to know how to grow the worms.
PS: My English level is very low! By Google Translator …

SecundinoParticipantBom dia, Felipe, your translator works well.
I grow Grindals for years now on lava ‘lapilli’, which is called ‘picón’ over here. Some 2 cm in a tupper, half cm of water, a few worms added and very little oat over it. I have four tuppers which are in sequence; when I need Grindal I fill the tupper with water, stirring a bit und sieve throug a double kitchen sieve. All eggs and worms are feeded, they find their way through both sieves.
There are always still enough left in the tupper, so just add a little bit of oats, close it again and put the tupper in the rear. Will be used next earliest in four days.
This method keeps smell very down; nearly no contamination, sometimes mould (too much oats) and sometimes Drosophila, which the fish eat too. Growing on earth or bread gave a horrible smell after a few days.
I did have mites on micros years ago. Just replace a – clean – bit into a new tupper. Wash if necessary; mites should swim on surface… theoretically.
And yes, most of free living nematodes live in water and soil. Panagrellus, Anguilula, whatsoever… !
