laneyParticipantHi Everyone,
Okay after nearly losing all my fish (neons, sharks, and xl angel) to whitespot,i have decided that my remaining xl marbled black angel needs a few of his own breeding.
Question for everyone is what do you all think they are best kept peacefully with?????I was thinking of Silver Sharks, angels and of course a few cat fish to keep things clean.
What do you all think
Elaine
also how do i put photos on here newbie you seeAugust 5, 2008 at 1:39 pm #308115

MattKeymasterHi Elaine how big is your tank? I’d be tempted to omit the silver sharks as they grow large, are very active and need a lot of swimming space, preferably with good flow. The angels tend to prefer calmer waters and lifestyle. A shoal of some medium-sized tetra would by my choice, with Corydoras and maybe one or two smaller plecs.

RevaParticipantHi Elaine,
I am in the USA, so am thinking your tank is a 45 gallon or so, so I agree with Matt about the silver sharks (Bala shark?) getting a bit big. A pretty substitute if you like that silvery look would be Pictus Cats ie Pimelodus pictus They like to be in a school (I have three), and they are silver with pretty black markings, long whiskers, big eyes, and active rather than hiding.
I tend to keep only one kind of cichlid per tank. My favorite fish to keep with Angels are the larger rasboras. I like Brilliant Rasboras ie Rasbora einthovenii and Scissortail Rasbora ie Rasbora trilineata. Both are very pretty when full grown, are hardy, long lived and about 2″ long. I have a school of both of those mixed and they swim together. Rasboras are less nippy than tetras and barbs
and a little group of Otocinclus algae eaters would be a nice finish!
What color angels do you like?August 6, 2008 at 6:14 pm #308142
laneyParticipantMMMMMMMMMM Pictus sharks yes i’ve had themin the past ans liked them a lot.
I already have 6 Silver tips sorry dont do latin names.
also have had various rasboras in the past, will think about that.My tank is yes about 46 gallons
I like the predomiately black angel’s my xxl one is a black marbe i think its called.
i have been given a black lace i love it need to try and get more.
Just thought silver sharks ande black angels nice colours.
Thanks for your thoughts
will try and post a photo of my angel later,August 7, 2008 at 12:41 pm #308151
MattKeymasterThe P. pictus will eat small fish though so be careful if you’re keeping tetras with them. I also think they might annoy the angels as they are very active.
What about diamond tetras? Really under-rated species in my opinion and have the silvery colour you’re after. Adult males are really beautiful and they’re dead easy to keep.

laneyParticipantYes if i remember correctly they where very active don’t want to upset my boy do i??????
i have one black widow tetra so yes your right the silvers would go nicely
Thanks

RevaParticipantIf by “silver tips” you mean silver tip tetras, then Matt is right..Pictus will eat them.
Another pretty fish that is silver and has stripes on the tail (I assume you like the black edges of the silver shark fins), is the Rummy Nose Tetra.I also really like Garnet Tetras and Pristella Tetras.
Black Angelfish are my favorite. Especially when they have some irridescent blue in the gill plates. I have had blacks and koi angels (black white and yellow).
An upside down syno cat would stay little…and also a clown pleco

Little LambParticipantI’d second the corydora recommendation, either them or brochis

duncKeymasterHey Elaine.. made any decisions?
August 27, 2008 at 3:24 pm #308706
laneyParticipantMMMMMMMMMMM Yes i have made decisions rightly or wrongly.
Hopefully i don’t regret any of them.
I have four small angels, my big marble two very small silver sharks, 6 silver tip tetras2 lemon tetras(i think) 1 black widow and of course my sailfin plec.
Maybe thats enough however might be tempted to Rummy nose tetras if i find any. They are living in harmony xxl angel just takes it his stride i do love him.
Think i have some more photos of tank with the new guys in it.Hopefully add some new photos into the photo album.
Sorry for the delay in replies been a bit busy with the dogs.
