personal messaging inbox

I have noticed that in the personal messaging part of the forums that my in box has recently been saying “inbox: 0” when there is a message in there.
I don’t think this is due to clicking “mark all topics as read” because it just happened when I went looking for your most recent message.
Not sure if “mark all topics as read” would have that effect anyway.
Might it get marked as viewed when the website sends me an e-mail notification?

Or, I receive an email telling me a message has been received, go to the inbox and find nothing.
