    It is, and it isn’t. I manage an IT dept for a global bank during the day and if we lost business critical data someone would at best be disciplined, more realistically, sacked.

    While our data might be considered more valuable than that of a fish forum, it’s members will still have invested considerable time in posting. Therefore the admin team owes it to it’s stakeholders (forum members) to protect their investment. All forum data should be backed up daily. And protected from attack. The admin team have to accept responsibility. They’re the only people who can protect it after all.

    Indeed, a better way to express it than I did. It’s clearly not an excuse for the people who hacked it in the first place, just like “But they have insurance” is not an excuse when someone steals something. Backup is “insurance” when it comes to computer content.
