StefanMemberHow did you find this stuff – or am I right and you were Googling ‘My BFF’ hoping to find one?

I posted this on our FB page and surprisingly quite a few folk see it as a positive way to get kids interested in the hobby which I guess is true to an extent?

keith565Participantno offence, but it’s typically American.
what about the poor kids when their ‘BFF’ dies of old age after several months?February 22, 2011 at 10:42 am #341287

Sonny DispositionMemberNo offense taken. It is typically American.
The idea isn’t a bad one–it’s the marketing I’m not crazy about. On the up side, it might get a few kids to spend a little less time with text messaging and video games.

EyrieParticipantI just wish they’d give out better information. Nothing about filtration for example.
QUOTEBest Practices for fully grown My Best Fish Friends
The following tips will help ensure that MY BFF are as
happy as possible:
– The more space that adult fish have, the happier and
healthier they will be.
– Treat tap water properly before putting it in the
bowl/freshwater-and-brackish-water-fishes, as most municipal water has
chlorine in it, which can kill fish.
– Plants help with cleaning the water and provide
oxygen, shelter, hiding places, and the occasional snack.
– Keep the fish in an area with a constant temperature
between 65 and 850F.
– The natural waste of fish emits ammonia, which can
accumulate, so clean the bowl regularly, but never
empty it completely. Leave 1/3 of the old water in the
bowl.
– Create places for the fish to hide and explore. Ceramic
objects, natural rocks, and plants work well.
– Be aware of the environment outside the aquarium.
Suddenly switching on a bright light in a dark room
can startle fish, and vibrations from a television or a
stereo can alarm and stress them.
– Keep all harmful chemicals away from the aquarium.
Cigarette smoke, paint fumes, and aerosol sprays can
be toxic if they are absorbed into the water.
– Don’t overfeed! Uneaten food and waste material
are broken down into ammonia and nitrites, which
are toxic.February 22, 2011 at 7:23 pm #341298
MattKeymasterPlus the fact they reckon Nothobranchius korthausae is from South America AND South Africa when in fact it’s native to Tanzania in East Africa.
I sometimes use that line on women. It never works.

Only 8 eggs though? That’s a bit miserly.

MaltiParticipantI don’t agree with this…along with betta vases, goldfish globes and other cruelty in a box stuff…
sure it gets more kids interested, but how many will do an ounce of research?
February 24, 2011 at 10:52 am #341323
JarcaveParticipantThe idea in principle is good. It’s just a shame it couldn’t be done a bit more responsibly.
And yeah, 8 eggs. Not a lot to get going with really!
