DaspriceyParticipantFantastic tank Tom!
DaspriceyParticipantBeautiful Loaches Thomas!
DaspriceyParticipantI think that picture of Mr choy’s albo just shows how variable this fish is, looking at Peter Cottles page for albos , that last one looks more like roseus but not. I’m still convinced it’s a brightley coloured albo or a hybrid (most likely the latter
I’m still convinced they are albos though. But still stunning whatever they are!
DaspriceyParticipantBeautiful fish Mark!
I don’t think it’s roseus, rather a variant albolineatus (“Pulcher” springs to mind?). A hybrid is a strong possibility though. I think there is also another species that is almost identical to roseus? Just can’t think of the name.
Cheers
Dave
DaspriceyParticipantQUOTE (Matt @ Aug 7 2009, 08:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Cambodgiensis ok kept both singly or in a group fellas?OK as groups but only in larger tanks. I’ve got three in my rio 400 and the two larger ones do fight and bully the smaller one a little but nothing bad comes of it. I wouldn’t have 3 in a tank smaller than 4′ though.
QUOTEEdit: and is it correct that the males develop red mouthparts when in spawning condition? Do they also get tubercules? This ones coming out of breeding condition i think, it;s been alot brighter not long before this photo was taken. You can just make out a little red
Yeah they do get tebercules.
Dave

DaspriceyParticipantThese two threads might help (or confuse) if you’ve not read them already,

http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?t=…hlight=balteata
As far as i can tell from them there’s at least four similar looking species balteata, paucifasciata, cincticauda and the cf balteata. Probably a load more though. lol

DaspriceyParticipantQUOTE (Mad Duff @ Jun 23 2009, 06:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I havent had any of mine loose scales that I have noticed anyway, I very rarely see much interaction between the Crosso’s and the Garra’s.QUOTEI get a little aggro with my various Crossocheilus and Garra but not much.Well my largest garra chased them quite alot when they were first added, probably because they are a very similar shape. They seem fine around each other now.
DaspriceyParticipantQUOTE (Mad Duff @ Jun 23 2009, 06:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Several species of Oryzias were available in the UK several years back, you could go into a shop without seeing some but they are not as common as they once were. I think the Maidenhead aquatics near me had some in a few weeks back so they are around.I think Emma had some “neon green” rice rish of something similar in last time i was there, would have got some but i didn’t have anywhere to put them.
DaspriceyParticipantQUOTE (David Marshall @ Jun 20 2009, 10:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>HeyA friend has passed onto me a press cutting from the ‘Daily Mirror’ of 27/03/09. A schoolboy found a Plecostomus species in the Grand Union Canal near Wigston (Leics.). Sadly the poor fish was dead but how long it had survived in the Canal was, of course, unknown. Another sad case of aquarium fish release.
Regards David
I read that too. It’s sad to see.
DaspriceyParticipantQUOTEAnd the retics as well…ahem… blush.gifAhh, you’re doing a profile of a fish i’ve kept!
Sorry about crap photo.
Nice fish.
