I forgot to add, who needs planet catfish when we have such fantastic photography like this. Great pics Mike. I have a Fuji finepix S5500, any tips?

Thanks for the kind compliments folks, much appreciated.
As Matt will verify i’m a bit of a camera nut and I just like
sharing pics and looking at other folks photos and fish.

Richy the fugi is a great camera and you should be able to get
good pics of your fish with it, (I had a finepix S7000)
Thing about fish photography is getting as much light into
the tank as possible and use the flash (diffused) this will
help freeze the fish as will a fast aperture ( shutter speed)
DOF is determined by F stops, low F stop will focus more on
the fish and less on the background, it will also need more
light and a faster shutter speed. A higher F stop will have
the opposite effect, These settings are for manual. (M on the dial)

    Try this on your S5500…

Put the camera on CAF (continuous auto focus)
    iso 100
Flash on (diffuse with tissue paper if you are getting flash back)
    Macro on (flower symbol)
Tank lights on, room light off

See how that goes mate, if you need any more help just shout.
Ps… practise on large slow moving fish if possible,
it’s also a good idea to focus on something in the tank,
rock/ornament and wait for the fish to swim by.
    Cheers Mike.

Mike what type of cam do you use? need to buy one and maybe get some good pics

I have a Nikon D70s, got it second hand at the right price on a photography forum,
it’s a great camera but has a lot of bells and whistles to fathom out.

If you are looking for a decent camera at the right price look on e-bay for
a Fugi Finepix S7000, they don’t make them any more but they are a top
of the range point and shoot with a great macro feature ideal for fish pics.
I would offer you my old one but the mode select button is sticking a bit
and although it works perfectly I wouldn’t be happy doing it.

Here’s an example pic from the Fugi…

Yes definately Thorichthys ellioti, and probably the the most mild mannered
cichlid I have ever kept, but then they haven’t bred yet,
Gorgeous looking fish though and getting prettier as the grow out.
