depends what your looking for? try cites for their lists of banned or endangered fish, brazil has ibaama for their approved list (everything else is banned that is not on this list), theres also e fish business website that should give a list of fish banned from entry to the uk – mainly coldwater fish. i believe there is also MAC which imposes regulations on the collection of marine species for the aquarium trade. various websites also have details of individual countries which have banned certain species for collection. hope this is a start but as dunc says it would be easier if we knew what you were looking into it for. cheers neill

i like the tetratec ex1200 as well (especially as i only paid £60 delivered for it 18 months ago), happy with the rena xp4 ive got as well. make sure you buy good media whichever filter you use – seachem or eheim as it makes a big difference to stocking levels and stability. the only ehein i have had (a pro 3) started leaking and i got no support from eheim what so ever but the build quality is good on most of their filters, although if you dont mistreat other makes they should last.

for a shop it would be but id guess a large propertion of that is wholesale dry goods – i used to buy off them and their list was pretty decent.

cant find it but £1 m sounds a lot but as well as the huge shop they were also a wholesaler of dry goods – bringing in chinese built stock as well under their own 5 star brand. they had trucks etc for delivery too. so added all up £1 million if its true sounds reasonable – i guess the administrators would count everything of value (ie shop – trucks etc) as stock for disposal purposes.

from what ive read they are in the hands of the receiver who is looking for someone to buy the remaining part of the business – they said there is over £1 million of stock remaining so i guess they are looking for a decent offer – will they get it in the economic climate? or would it just be easier for someone to ‘step into the shoes’ of the business once it closes? suppose it depends on how long they have got to find someone but theres not many out there who could fund this kind of buyout unfortunately.

The example of the Piebald-Badis clearly shows on the other hand that it is very dangerous to cross fish of unknown origin. Nevertheless these hybrids are pretty aquarium inhabitants that can be kept like all Badis.

    from glaser website –
‘dangerous to cross fish of unknown origin’ but hey , what the hell, they are pretty and theyll sell.

    dissapointing.
