torsoParticipantI’ve got the pair. thanks Pascal.
the colouring is a little different: the first female is more grey with steelblue pattern, the pair light brown with steeblue pattern that doesn’t come through very clear. the females look lke twin sisters coming from different regions.
I’ll try to find the species as r candidianus is out of question if I’m not mistaken.
sizes are: females 5 cm, male 7 cm.
the male shows two yellow dots on the dosrsal fin base
torsoParticipantI guess it’s not ctenocephalus nor scitulus or zebrinus. would mean a new one. HHT schould see the pics.

torsoParticipantthe yahusikotakia nigrolineta I’ve got recently are now in the 112 lt tank together with pseudogastromyzon spp and rhinogobius cf candidianus. to my surprise they fit better together than exspected. the rhino female, normally chasing all hillies away lies side by side in a cavern with nigros.
a friend found me a pair of the same rhino species in germany. I’m curious to see the male.
some first pics of the rhinogobius duospilus in the quaratine-tank
torsoParticipantctenocephalus, farragus, ocellatus, scitulus, stellatus, viriosus and zebrinus come in as “punctulatus”. sometimes other species – as hypergastromyzon – from the same areas go with. the trade – starting with the catchers – won’t separate the species even if they could. no interest!
I should get some punctulatus, a sp and embalohensis soon. but not from the trade.
torsoParticipantyes. a zebrinus female
torsoParticipantvery nice find indeed.
you are right
g virious – female, male, female and male (background)-
and g scitulus – male
as far I can see.
take some more pics if you want to be shure.
viriosus are not easy to find- take some more if you have the opportunity
cheers Charles
torsoParticipantsome pics.
interesting the orange spot on the head, only to be seen from this side and the orange spots in the ventral and anal fins only in the lateral view
and it really has this wonderful radiant blue
the body shape looks very strong to me. it has no problems to chase the large pseudogastromyzon fasciatus/fangi and sewellia sp away
torsoParticipantthanks cfai
I had a visitor breeding r duospilus. he says: can’t be. this one is at least 5 cm long, duospilus are smaller, not so strong and with different pattern and so on. what irritates me: pics of r duospilus show very different species. I’m going to work that out with the threads on perfrd
r candidianus is not far, but I should really have some more specimen. may be some come in on wednesday.
whatever: for my special tank 140x25x25 without heating, s. barbatus and r duospilus are targeted. may be this one too and some n. chrosomus (if I get sound ones) and so on. I think I’ll need a second long tank.
torsoParticipantthanks Matt
looks alike but: stripes are “regular” and without lateral thickening. and I can’t guess a black spot at the margin of the tail-fin.
do we have another choice?
torsoParticipantyes Matt. thanks for the news.
it does very well. I added about 20 gastromyzon and others to the quar.tank and that was a godd thing to do. it’s not so shy any more so I could take some pictures.a more pronounced lateral stripe.
can be seen more clearly. would take some time do take pics.
et voilà
at the size of 3.5 cm
torsoParticipantQUOTE (Matt @ Apr 22 2010, 03:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hmm aren’t there a whole bunch that look similar to R. duospilus?
yes. but there are two points to add: duospilus doesn’t look like. I have seen them yesterday live. second: as I get my “specials” from the retailer as species to identifie it is unlikely to be a species they have on the stocklist – as r wui (but they know the new name, it’s just a way to keep the fish going into the LFS without a break because of changed scientific name).
I hope to have more pics – and some other specimen -
