Not a lot to add beyond what you’re already doing – water changes, water changes and more water changes. Keep testing daily to monitor the results until the cycle bacteria colonies recover and can cope with the waste being produced by the fish.

I’d also cut back on feeding just now to every second or third day. The fish will cope and the less they eat then the less ammonia they can excrete, which will help control the readings.

I assume that it was only a mechanical pre-filter wool which you replaced and not all the media?

thanks for the reply eyrie, the filter only had pre filter wool and some carbon, of which i dumped, fingers crossed

also… the live rock needs to be very clean of debris, so LR only tanks usually have no substrate, have the rocks stacked with spaces between, with bloody big powerheads to allow free powerful water movement!

thanks colin, that has cleared up a lot of understandin how the system works .

no, dont let it bubble up under the live rock as it can kill and beneficial organisms and the likes of sponges etc.

Have it so that it is not touching the rock

You should also “tumble” live rock in the tank water before its in it’s final resting place to allow any trapped bubbles to escape

    cheers

thanks very much colin, i did tumble the live rock befor putting into tank as you can see i am new to marine just as well there are no fish in yet thank you ulosky
