Endemic to the rocky coastal zones of northwestern Lake Tanganyika, between Luhanga and Makabola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Etymology

Julidochromis: from the name 'Julidini', a putative tribe of labrid marine wrasses which Julidochromis resemble, and the Greek chromis, meaning 'fish'.

transcriptus: from the Latin transcribo, meaning 'transcribed, copied'.

Distribution

Endemic to northwestern Lake Tanganyika, between Luhanga and Makabola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with type locality given simply as the 'extreme north' of the lake.

Habitat

Inhabits rocky, coastal zones.
