What counts as evidence
Every contribution needs a source, and a moderator decides whether it holds up.
My own experience
What you have kept, and what it did. A moderator reads this as carefully as a paper.
EnoughKept twelve in a planted 60 cm tank since March 2024. They shoal tightly all day and the males only colour up above eight fish.

Say how many, how long and what you saw, so a moderator can judge it.
A website I saw
A page you read: an IUCN Red List assessment, a museum catalogue, a Fishbase entry. Paste the address of the page itself and name it, and we record the date you read it.

Not enoughThe IUCN site.
A site has thousands of pages and the address is which one you read. Without it a moderator is searching for the page you already had open.
A paper
A journal article or a species description. If it has a DOI, paste that and we fill in the title, authors and year for you. A DOI is a code in the form 10.11646/zootaxa.4694.4.1, usually printed on the first page. An IUCN assessment has one too, near the citation at the foot of the page. Papers older than about 2000 mostly have none, so type those out.

Name it and say which part of it you mean, so a moderator can look it up.
A book, or something not online
A book, a magazine, a society journal. Nothing here needs an address or a code.
EnoughKottelat, M. (2013) The fishes of the inland waters of Southeast Asia, p. 218. Gives 24–28 °C for wild populations in the Mekong.
Not enoughIt's in a book somewhere.
Name the book and the page, so a moderator can check the passage you read.
Something already on the profile
The profile already says it somewhere in its text. Copy the sentence.
EnoughThe behaviour section says males hold territory year-round, not only when breeding.
Not enoughIt says so above.
Say which section it is in, as a moderator cannot guess which one you meant.
What happens next
A moderator reads it and does one of three things. If they accept it, the value goes on the profile and your source into its references. If something is missing, they send it back with a note saying what, and you can send it again. If they decline it, that is the end of that contribution.
