Balroglanis macracanthus is a small driftwood catfish endemic to the upper rio Negro system in Brazil. Poorly known but occasionally available in the aquarium hobby, it shelters among submerged wood by day and forages at night. Like other auchenipterids it practises internal insemination, and females can carry eggs and sperm packets until conditions trigger fertilisation.
