Exodon paradoxusBucktooth Tetra
authority not recorded
The bucktooth tetra, Exodon paradoxus, is a scale-ripping characin widespread in the Brazilian Amazon. The only member of its genus, it has teeth that allow it to tear scales from other fishes. It will relentlessly attack silver-coloured or shiny tankmates, even larger predators, so it is best kept as a large shoal in a species setup. Scaleless and non-reflective fish are generally left alone.
