The African pike characin, Hepsetus odoe, is a predatory characin widespread in Africa, from Senegal and Guinea to Angola, Namibia and Zimbabwe. The only species in its genus, it is an ambush predator with a fearsome set of teeth that superficially resembles the European pike. Juveniles appear in the trade, but it reaches 70 cm in nature and is strictly for the specialist with a very large aquarium.
