Parachromis

The jaguar cichlid, Parachromis managuensis, is a large predatory cichlid from eastern Central America, from Honduras through Nicaragua to Costa Rica. Almost exclusively carnivorous, it will see smaller fish as food and is always territorial. A large aquarium is required, and a single spawn from large adults can produce 3000 fry.

The false yellowjacket cichlid, Parachromis motaguensis, is a large predatory cichlid from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. It occurs in lakes and larger streams, most often in the central flowing parts of rivers. Aggressive towards its own and other species, it treats anything that fits in its mouth as food, and a breeding pair will hurt any other fish in the tank, even significantly bigger ones.
