artesian basin

Type of confined aquifer containing groundwater under positive pressure.

A subterranean bed or layer of permeable rock, sediment or soil that bears water. Naturally-occuring springs and wells are fed by aquifers.
Great Artesian Basin
Largest and deepest artesian basin in the world, located in Australia and measuring around 1,711,000 square kilometres (661,000 sq mi). It covers most of Queensland, the south-east corner of the Northern Territory, northeastern South Australia, and northern New South Wales.

Water held beneath the Earth's surface. Typically supplies wells and springs.
