Perciformes

Perciformes once held the perches and most of the fishes that looked like them, and it has been divided several times since. Every fish on this site that used to be filed here now sits under the order it belongs to: the gouramies, snakeheads and chameleonfishes in Anabantiformes, the cichlids in Cichliformes, and the gobies and sleepers in Gobiiformes. Five small families are in none of them, because the references still disagree about where they go.
