The Siamese mud carp, Gymnostomus siamensis, is a cyprinid from the Mekong, Chao Phraya and Mae Klong basins in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Common in the Mekong main channel and larger tributaries, it moves into inundated zones to spawn in the wet season and is abundant in the massive seasonal migrations of cyprinids. It has a relatively deep, plain silver body and a large, broad head.
