The five-banded barb, Desmopuntius pentazona, is a cyprinid generally accepted to be endemic to northwestern Borneo, with a type locality in Sarawak. It is rare in the trade, and most fish sold as 'pentazona barb' are the closely-related D. hexazona. The two are almost identical, but D. pentazona has a small dark marking at the rear of the dorsal-fin base that D. hexazona lacks.
