Umkhen

The Shalyni barb, Pethia shalynius, is a small cyprinid that appears to be endemic to Meghalaya state in northeastern India. It is known from only a handful of localities in the Khasi and Jaintia hills, mostly streams above 1200 metres with cool, clear, well-oxygenated water, and is apparently under threat from industrial activity. Very peaceful, it is still a poor choice for the general community aquarium because of its preference for cooler temperatures.
