The Proteus pike cichlid, Saxatilia proteus, is one of the smaller pike cichlids, known from Ecuador, Peru and Brazil. It is occasionally offered for sale and more than makes up for its size in aggression, especially towards conspecifics. It will eat any fish small enough to be considered food, so suits a tank of larger cichlids or a species-only set-up.
